Rule 10
Food samples

(1) When taking food samples, the food inspector shall take samples in two sections in the proportion specified in Schedule 3 at the sampling location and keep each section in a separate container and cover it with a berry print and do as follows:-
(a) To send a vessel forthwith to the Public Analyst for analysis.
(b) To send one vessel to the local district officer.
(2) The containers according to sub-rule (1) must be clean and constructed so that the foodstuff kept inside them cannot escape, leak and any foreign matter can enter or penetrate.
(3) According to sub-rule (1), when the food inspector takes food for sampling, he shall pay the prevailing price of the total quantity of such food to the owner or seller of the food.
(4) The owner or the seller of the food must stamp on the cover of the container in which the food is kept and on the notice as per Schedule-2.
(5) According to sub-rule (4) if the owner or seller of the food item does not print correctly on the cover of the container in which the food item is kept and in the notice as per schedule-2, the food inspector shall send the sample to the public analyst for analysis, the head of the food technology and quality control department and the local district. The authorities should be informed about it.
